Shop Access & Safety

As a club, we do work in various locations on campus, namely the FSAE basement shop, the MechE shop, and the Makerspace. Each of these has its own safety and training procedure: if you'd like to work in any of these spaces, make sure to follow the directions below.

To work in the FSAE shop (basement of Mudd) the waiver linked here needs to be filled out: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Pfz89oa8E2V8U9sVqae5VjW3FS8nYsrl/view?usp=sharing

To work in the MechE shop (2nd floor of Mudd) the following test needs to be passed found here: https://www.rascal.columbia.edu/tc/course/TC0600/courseOverview

  • To learn how to use specific machines in the MechE shop, email Bob at rs46@columbia.edu.

To work in the Makerspace (2nd floor of Mudd), an onboarding session must be attended. (scheduling here: https://make.columbia.edu/hours-events ). After the onboarding, ask a superuser or staff member to learn how to use any equipment you are not familiar with. Email general_makerspace@columbia.edu with questions.

There are separate guidelines for electrical specific work. These guidelines are currently being determined at the moment, so sit tight and we'll update this page as soon as they're set.
